What thread size does a .410 bore mop use?

Most .410 bore mops use 5/16-27 threads, the standard for shotgun cleaning accessories. Some manufacturers offer .410 mops with 8-32 threads (the rifle/pistol standard) since the .410's small bore diameter overlaps with large-caliber pistol accessories. Check the threading on your cleaning rod before buying - the mop is useless if it doesn't thread on.

Can I use a .45 caliber pistol bore mop for my .410 shotgun?

The bore diameters are close (.410" vs .452"), so a .45 pistol mop will physically fit, but it will be slightly oversize and might not thread onto your shotgun cleaning rod (5/16-27 vs 8-32). A bore mop needs to fit snugly - too loose and it won't absorb fouling, too tight and it gets stuck. Use a mop sized specifically for .410 bore for the best results.
