The .410 bore is the narrowest common shotgun barrel - and that tight space makes a properly sized cotton bore mop essential. This .410 bore mop is packed with 100% cotton fibers that absorb solvent and carry out fouling residue left behind after brushing. It fits the .410 bore precisely, reaching walls that a loose patch on a jag would miss.

Fouling in a .410 has nowhere to go. Carbon and lead residue sit closer to the bore surface and affect patterns faster than in larger gauges. A gun cleaning mop soaked in solvent after brushing lifts out what the brush loosened. Follow with a lightly oiled pass to seal the bore against moisture - especially important for .410 firearms that may sit between seasons.

Reusable until the cotton thins out. Wash with bore solvent or warm soapy water, air dry, and it's ready for your next bore cleaning session. A small but necessary shotgun cleaning mop for a bore that doesn't forgive neglect.

What thread size does a .410 bore mop use?
Most .410 bore mops use 5/16-27 threads, the standard for shotgun cleaning accessories. Some manufacturers offer .410 mops with 8-32 threads (the rifle/pistol standard) since the .410's small bore diameter overlaps with large-caliber pistol accessories. Check the threading on your cleaning rod before buying - the mop is useless if it doesn't thread on.
Can I use a .45 caliber pistol bore mop for my .410 shotgun?
The bore diameters are close (.410" vs .452"), so a .45 pistol mop will physically fit, but it will be slightly oversize and might not thread onto your shotgun cleaning rod (5/16-27 vs 8-32). A bore mop needs to fit snugly - too loose and it won't absorb fouling, too tight and it gets stuck. Use a mop sized specifically for .410 bore for the best results.
Is a bore mop reusable or disposable?
Reusable. Cotton bore mops can be washed with solvent or hot soapy water and air-dried between sessions. They last through many uses before the cotton thins out. Replace when the mop no longer feels snug in the bore or when fibers start shedding into the barrel. At that point, a worn mop does more harm than good by leaving cotton debris behind.
What does a bore mop actually do that a patch doesn't?
A mop holds 3-4 times more solvent than a flat patch, creating better bore-wall contact and more effective fouling absorption in a single pass. In the .410's narrow bore, a mop's cylindrical shape conforms to the barrel walls more evenly than a patch wrapped on a jag. The trade-off: patches give you a cleaner visual read on bore condition since you can inspect them after each stroke.
Should I oil the bore after cleaning my .410?
Yes. After removing all fouling with a brush and mop, run a lightly oiled mop through the bore once. This leaves a thin protective film that prevents rust during storage. Don't over-oil - excess oil can attract dust and, in a shotgun, affect the first shot's pattern. A single pass with a lightly saturated mop is enough.
