Big-bore handguns and lever guns leave heavy fouling - and this .44/.45 caliber bore snake pulls it out in one pass. Fits .44 Magnum, .44 Special, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, and .45-70 Government. The oversized floss section matches the wider bore, so the entire surface gets wiped on every pull-through. A built-in bronze brush embedded in the cord scrubs carbon and lead deposits loose, and the trailing fabric absorbs the debris along with whatever solvent you applied before the pass.

The .45 ACP 1911 is one of the most cleaned handguns in America - and one of the easiest to bore-snake. Field strip, drop the weight through the barrel, pull. Done. For .44 Magnum revolver owners, the bore snake passes through each chamber individually after the cylinder is swung out - a faster alternative to threading a brush and jag six times. Lever-action .45-70 shooters benefit the most: the bore snake enters from the muzzle end and pulls through without fighting the lever action's internals.

One bore snake, one pass, and the bore cleaning is handled for the day. Wash it when the floss gets saturated with fouling, store it dry, and it lasts through dozens of gun cleaning sessions. Keep it in your pistol case or range bag alongside your ammo - it weighs nothing and takes up no space.

What calibers does this bore snake fit?
This bore snake fits all firearms in the .44-.45 caliber range: .44 Magnum, .44 Special, .45 ACP, .45 Colt (Long Colt), .45 GAP, .454 Casull, and .45-70 Government. The bore diameters (.429"-.458") are close enough that one bore snake covers the entire family. Note: for .45-70 rifles with longer barrels, make sure the snake length is sufficient.
How do I use a bore snake in a revolver?
Open the cylinder, drop the weighted end through the barrel from the forcing cone end (where the cylinder meets the barrel). The weight exits the muzzle. Pull the cord until the full snake passes through. For the cylinder chambers, you can pull the snake through each chamber individually, but the fit will be loose since chambers are wider than the bore. A bore brush or mop on a rod is better for cylinder cleaning.
Is a bore snake enough to clean my 1911?
For quick post-range maintenance - yes. The bore snake removes carbon and powder fouling from the bore in seconds. For a complete 1911 cleaning, you also need to: clean the barrel hood and feed ramp (use a brush), clean the frame rails (use a cloth), lubricate the barrel bushing and slide rails, and inspect the recoil spring. The bore snake handles the barrel bore; the rest of the pistol needs separate attention.
Can I use too much solvent on a bore snake?
You don't need much - 3-4 drops on the leading floss section is plenty. Over-saturating the snake makes a mess without improving cleaning effectiveness. The floss is designed to spread a small amount of solvent evenly across the bore walls ahead of the brush. If solvent is dripping from the snake before you pull it through, you've used too much. Less is more.
How do I store a bore snake?
Air dry completely after washing, then coil loosely in a zip-lock bag or the storage case if one was included. Store it with your cleaning supplies, not inside the gun case - residual solvent on the snake can affect wood stocks or foam case liners. Don't store it wet; trapped moisture can cause the brass weight and bronze brush to develop a green patina, which is harmless but messy.
