One kit that actually covers what you own

Most "universal" gun cleaning kits aren't. You unpack them at home and find out the .357 brush is missing, the rod won't reach into a shotgun barrel, or half the brass is actually steel painted gold. The Universal Elite Gun Cleaning Kit is the one we built to fix that — 36 pieces, every brush, jag, and rod in solid brass, sized to clean everything from a .22 pistol to a 12-gauge shotgun.

What's actually in the case

You get eight bronze bore brushes, eight cotton mops, five brass jags, four slotted tips, and four muzzle guards — covering .22, .357/9mm, .30/.38/.308, .40, .45, .410, 20 GA, and 12 GA. Two rod handles — a T-handle with rotor that lets the brush follow the rifling on handgun barrels, and a fixed handle for the leverage you need on a shotgun. Four threaded brass rod sections, three utility brushes (nylon, brass, steel), 100% cotton patches, and 9 mm / 5 mm thread adapters so it works with rods you may already own.

Brass, because everything else corrodes

Solid brass is softer than your barrel — that's the whole point. It cleans fouling without scratching rifling, and unlike steel or aluminum, it won't rust when you store it after a humid range day. A lot of "universal" kits cut corners here: chrome-plated steel that flakes, aluminum that strips threads, plastic jags that crack at the patch slot. Every metal component in this kit is solid brass. There are no shortcuts in the parts that touch your barrel.

A case that's not going to crack

The hard plastic boxes most kits ship in absorb solvent into the plastic, crack at the hinge after a season, and lock everything into molded slots so you can't add a thing. Our case is Oxford 1000D fabric — the same material used in tactical gear — with reinforced seams and a heavy-duty zipper. It's water-resistant, wipes clean, and the elastic loops mean you can drop in your own brushes, punches, or a small bottle of CLP. 11.5 × 8.2 × 2.5 in packed — small enough for a range bag, big enough for everything in it.

Smart storage tubes for every brush

Every bore brush sits in its own labeled, impact-resistant plastic tube. Solvent on a brush stays on the brush — not on the inside of the case, not on your other brushes. Pull the .357 tube out, use it, put it back. After a season you'll notice your brushes still look new instead of matted into a rusty ball at the bottom of a tackle box.

Who buys this kit

Mixed safes — a 9 mm carry gun, a hunting shotgun, maybe a .308 deer rifle. Range owners and instructors who clean a different caliber every week. Hunters who run a 12-gauge in the fall and a rifle the rest of the year. New gun owners who want one kit they're not going to replace in twelve months.

What firearms does this universal gun cleaning kit work on?
The kit covers pistols, revolvers, and shotguns in the most common American calibers — .22, .357/9mm, .38, .40, .45, plus .410, 20-gauge, and 12-gauge shotguns. The .30 and .308 brushes also cover most centerfire rifle calibers including .30-06, .30-30, .300 Win Mag, and 7.62 NATO. The .22 brush handles .223/5.56 for AR-style rifles. For long rifle barrels, we recommend pairing the kit with a one-piece rifle rod for a deeper clean.
What's actually in a gun cleaning kit, and is this one complete?
A proper kit needs four things: a rod system (handle + sections to push tools through the barrel), bore brushes (one per caliber, to scrub fouling), jags or slotted tips (to hold cotton patches), and patches (cotton, to wipe the bore clean). This kit includes all four — plus utility brushes for the action and slide, muzzle guards to protect the crown, and storage tubes to keep everything organized. You'll still want a bottle of solvent and CLP, sold separately.
Are all universal gun cleaning kits the same?
No — and this is where most cheap kits cut corners. The two biggest differences are the metal (real brass vs. plated steel that rusts after one humid range day) and the case (Oxford fabric vs. hard plastic that cracks at the hinge). Brushes, jags, and rod sections in this kit are all solid brass. The case is Oxford 1000D — the same material used in tactical gear. That's the difference between a kit you'll replace in a year and one you won't.
Why brass, not steel? Will brass damage my barrel?
Brass is softer than the steel your barrel is made of, which is exactly why the industry has used brass cleaning tools for over a century. It scrubs out copper and powder fouling without touching the rifling. Stainless or steel brushes can score the bore over time; that's why we don't ship them in this kit.
What's the difference between the T-handle and the fixed handle?
The T-handle has a built-in rotor, which lets the brush turn with the rifling as you push it through a handgun barrel. That's the correct cleaning motion for pistols and revolvers. The fixed handle gives you more leverage and a straight push — better for the longer barrels on shotguns. Both thread onto the same brass rod sections.
Can I add my own brushes or punches to the case?
Yes — that's why we used elastic loops instead of molded plastic slots. There's room to add extra caliber brushes, a punch set, a small CLP bottle, or anything else you bring back from a gunsmith trip. The case isn't locked to its original layout.
Is the case waterproof?
Oxford 1000D is water-resistant, not waterproof. It shrugs off solvent splashes, oil drips, and light rain, and you can wipe or wash it. Don't submerge it.
How often should I clean my gun with this kit?
A safe rule: after every range trip if you shot more than 50 rounds, and at least once every couple of months even if the gun's just sitting in the safe. Rimfire guns (.22) foul faster and need cleaning more often. Modern centerfire pistols and rifles can go several hundred rounds between deep cleans, but always wipe the bore down before storage.
