Bore Brush Set

A bore brush set groups the attachments that clean one bore diameter: a phosphor bronze brush, a cotton mop and, in most configurations, a brass jag or slotted tip. GUNNIX sizes every piece in a set to the same caliber and the same thread standard, so each attachment screws onto one cleaning rod without adapters. The format suits shooters who maintain a specific firearm and replace worn pieces one at a time instead of reordering a full case of tools. Each set ships with the caliber engraved on every brass base, which keeps sizes sorted in a range bag.

Bore Brush Sets for Different Firearms and Calibers

Sets are listed by bore size, since one brush size serves every cartridge of that diameter. A single .30 caliber brush at 0.308 in cleans .308 Winchester, .30-06 and 7.62 NATO alike. The range runs from 0.172 in at the .17 end to 0.729 in for 12 gauge.

Tips on How to Choose the Right Size

  • Thread by firearm type – 8-32 on rifle and pistol pieces, 5/16-27 on shotgun pieces, 5-40 on .17 hardware.
  • Bore diameter – printed on each product page next to the cartridges that size serves, from 0.172 in at the small end to 0.729 in for 12 gauge.
  • Fit – bristles reach the grooves only at the matching diameter, and an undersized brush passes over the rifling without contact.
  • Marking – the caliber is stamped into the brass base of every caliber bore brush set and identifies the size on the bench without packaging.

Types of Bore Brushes Included in a Set

Contents vary by barrel type. Rifled bores take a pointed jag, which presses the patch into the grooves. Smooth shotgun bores take a slotted tip and larger patches instead. Packs are built from 4 component types, in four-piece, three-piece and two-piece configurations. Two-piece packs carry the brush and mop alone, for owners who already hold patch hardware in that size.

Components stocked in the packs:

  • Bore brush – phosphor bronze bristles on a brass core wire. Lifts carbon, lead and copper fouling after the solvent has softened it. A consumable item.
  • Cleaning jag – solid brass, pointed. Holds the patch against the rifling through the full stroke, which gives the tightest patch contact of any carrier.
  • Slotted tip – brass, with a slot that takes the patch. Supplied in shotgun packs and used for repeated solvent passes.
  • Bore mop – 100% cotton on a brass base. Applies solvent before brushing, dries the bore afterwards and carries the storage oil film.

Bore brush set configurations:

  • Four-piece – brush, jag, mop and slotted tip. The full sequence for one rifled caliber.
  • Three-piece – brush, jag and mop in rifle and pistol calibers; brush, slotted tip and mop in 12 gauge, where a smooth bore takes no jag.
  • Two-piece – brush and mop, in calibers where patch hardware is bought separately.

Why Choose GUNNIX Bore Brush Sets

Materials

  • Bristles – phosphor bronze. Lift baked carbon, rimfire lead and lube, plated copper and the wad plastic left near a shotgun choke.
  • Core wire and base – brass. Brownells advises brass-core brushes for general use, since a steel core can scratch the muzzle crown on withdrawal.
  • Jags and slotted tips – machined from solid brass.
  • Mops – 100% cotton on a brass base. Cotton holds more solvent than synthetic fibre and tolerates a barrel still warm from shooting.
  • Bore contact – no part of the assembly that enters the bore is bare steel.

Warranty and service

  • Warranty – one year limited on the brass hardware, dated from the warranty card in the box.
  • Exclusions – brushes, as consumable items.
  • Dispatch – within 1 business day.
  • Delivery – 2–5 business days across the continental US.

FAQ

A set costs less than the same items bought one at a time, and the size and thread already match. Individual brushes are the follow-up purchase: by the time the bristles have gone soft, the brass jag and the cotton mop are still working. Buying individual pieces from the start makes sense in one case, when part of the hardware is already on hand and only the gaps need filling.

Wet the bore with solvent and let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes. Run the brush from the breech, push it fully out past the muzzle and reverse it only there, because turning a brush inside the bore folds the bristles. Then patch on the jag until the patches come out clean, normally three to five passes. Dry with the mop and apply a thin oil film for storage.

With ordinary petroleum-based solvents, without restriction: bronze, brass and cotton tolerate them for as long as the job takes. Ammonia-based copper removers call for care, since their function is dissolving copper and bronze bristles are a copper alloy. That chemistry goes on a patch, and the brush stays dry. Rinsing the brush after a cleaning session extends its service life.
