Not every barrel has rifling - and not every cleaning rod handle needs to spin. This fixed aluminum handle is built for smoothbore firearms like shotguns, where there are no spiral grooves to force the rod into rotation. The handle locks solidly onto the rod with no play, giving you full control over the push-and-pull motion without the rod spinning in your grip.

Shotgun barrels are smoothbore, so a brush or mop travels straight through without any rotational force. A fixed handle makes that stroke more controlled and more deliberate than a rotating one, which can feel loose and imprecise when there's no rifling to engage it. For pistol shooters who clean short barrels with quick, firm strokes, the rigid connection between hand and rod provides better feel and more consistent pressure on the patch or brush.

Lightweight aluminum construction keeps the handle easy to maneuver without adding weight to your gun cleaning kit. Solvent-resistant and built to last through years of use. Threads onto standard brass rod sections - pair it with GUNNIX 7.5" brass sections and your preferred bore cleaning accessories for a complete smoothbore cleaning setup.

What is the difference between a fixed handle and a rotating T-handle?
A rotating T-handle spins freely as the brush follows the rifling - essential for rifled barrels. A fixed handle does not rotate - it's designed for smoothbore barrels (shotguns) where there is no rifling to follow. Using a fixed handle on a rifled barrel forces the rod to resist the natural twist, which can stress the brush and the bore. Match the handle to your barrel type.
Can I use this handle on a rifled barrel in an emergency?
You can, but it's not ideal. Without rotation, you'll feel the rod fighting the rifling on each stroke. The brush wears unevenly, and over time, repeated cleaning without rotation can put unnecessary stress on the throat area of the barrel. For occasional use, it won't cause immediate damage. For regular cleaning of rifled firearms, invest in a rotating handle.
What firearms is this fixed handle best suited for?
Smoothbore shotguns - 12 gauge, 20 gauge, 16 gauge, .410, and 28 gauge. Since these barrels have no rifling, there's no twist to follow, and a simpler fixed handle works perfectly. It's also suitable for muskets, some muzzleloaders with smoothbore barrels, and any firearm where the bore is unrifled.
What thread size does this handle accept?
Standard 8-32 threads for rifle/pistol rod sections. For shotgun use, you may need a 5/16-27 to 8-32 adapter depending on your rod sections and accessories. The handle accepts any GUNNIX brass rod section and is compatible with 8-32 threaded cleaning rods from other manufacturers.
Is aluminum safe for gun cleaning - will it scratch?
The handle never enters the barrel - only the rod and attached accessories do. The handle material (aluminum) doesn't contact the bore at all. Aluminum is lighter than brass or steel, making the handle comfortable during extended cleaning sessions. The rod sections and bore-contacting accessories are brass, which is the barrel-safe material.
