Carbine-length barrels - 14.5" to 20" - are the most common in modern sporting rifles, and this 30" flexible gun cleaning cable covers them all with room to spare. Drop the cable through the chamber, thread a brush or jag onto the end at the muzzle, and pull it back through. Breech-to-muzzle cleaning in the correct direction, every pass, without a bore guide or rigid rod.

The AR-15 platform dominates this barrel length range, and it was designed to be cleaned from the breech. A flexible cable makes that practical without a full bench setup - feed it through the ejection port or the buffer tube channel, attach your cleaning accessory, and pull. No rigid rod flexing against the bore walls, no muzzle crown contact, no risk of rod-to-rifling wear. For range-day maintenance between detailed home cleanings, this is the tool that fits in your range bag next to your magazines.

Works with every 8-32 threaded gun cleaning accessory: bore brushes, brass jags, cotton mops, and slotted tips. Coated stainless steel cable resists solvents and coils flat for storage. One bore cleaning cable that pairs with the brushes and jags you already own.

Is 30 inches long enough for an AR-15 or other carbine?
Yes. Standard AR-15 barrels are 16 inches, and most carbine barrels range from 14.5 to 20 inches. A 30-inch cable passes through with enough excess to grip both ends and attach accessories. For rifles with barrels longer than 24 inches (like a 26-inch target rifle), step up to the 34-inch cable to ensure full pass-through.
Can I use this cable instead of a cleaning rod?
Yes - the cable replaces a rigid cleaning rod for pull-through cleaning. Attach a brush, jag, or mop to the threaded end, drop the cable through from the breech, and pull the accessory through the bore. The cable handles everything a rod does: brushing, solvent application, patching, and oiling. The main difference is technique - you pull instead of push, and you can't do back-and-forth strokes in a single pass.
Does a flexible cable protect the bore better than a rigid rod?
In most cases, yes. A rigid rod that isn't perfectly centered can contact the bore wall, chamber throat, or muzzle crown - especially without a bore guide. A flexible cable follows the bore contour naturally and can't apply lateral pressure to the bore walls. No bore guide needed. The coated surface adds another layer of protection. For breech-to-muzzle cleaning, a cable is the gentlest option.
What's the difference between a 30" and 34" cable?
Four inches of working length. The 30-inch cable fits carbines and standard-length rifles (up to ~24-inch barrels). The 34-inch cable is for longer barrels - 26-inch target rifles, long-range bolt actions, and magnum rifles with extended barrels. If your barrel is under 24 inches, save the few cents and go with the 30-inch. If you're not sure, the 34-inch works for everything the 30-inch does, plus longer barrels.
Can I use this cable for muzzle-to-breech cleaning on a lever-action rifle?
Yes - this is one of the cable's best use cases. Lever-action rifles can't be cleaned from the breech easily. Drop the cable in from the muzzle, thread on your accessory at the bottom, and pull it back up through the bore. The cable exits the muzzle without striking the crown because it's flexible - no muzzle guard needed. For lever-action owners, a flexible cable solves the biggest cleaning challenge.
