Full-size pistols and revolvers with 4" to 6" barrels need a cleaning cable with enough length to exit the muzzle and still leave room to grip. This 12" flexible gun cleaning cable handles that range comfortably. Feed it through from the breech end, thread on your brush or jag, and pull it through the bore - breech-to-muzzle cleaning without a rigid rod or bore guide.

Revolver owners face a unique cleaning challenge: the barrel is permanently attached to the frame, and feeding a stiff cleaning rod from the breech means working through the cylinder gap and forcing cone. A flexible cable bends through that path without resistance. For semi-auto pistols, the cable passes through the barrel from the chamber end after field-stripping - no muzzle contact, no crown wear. Both gun types benefit from the same advantage: the cable follows the bore instead of fighting it.

Coated stainless steel construction resists cleaning solvents and bore oils without corroding or fraying. The 8-32 thread on the end accepts any standard bore cleaning accessory - brushes, jags, mops, slotted tips. Keep this gun cleaning cable in your pistol case alongside a brush and a jag, and your entire cleaning kit fits in a zippered pouch.

Is 12 inches long enough for a full-size pistol?
Yes. Most full-size pistol barrels are 4-5 inches long. The 12-inch cable provides enough length to pass through the barrel with room to attach accessories and grip the cable on both sides. It also works for revolvers, where you may want to pull the cable through individual cylinder chambers as well as the barrel. For anything longer than a 6-inch barrel, step up to the 30-inch cable.
Can I use this cable to clean my revolver's cylinder chambers?
Yes. Thread a bore mop or brush sized for your caliber onto the cable, and pull it through each cylinder chamber individually. The 12-inch length gives you enough cable to work through the cylinder and barrel without running short. This is a faster method than pushing a rigid rod through each chamber - the flexible cable drops in and pulls through without alignment hassle.
How does a pull-through cable clean differently than a push rod?
A rigid rod pushes accessories from one end - you control pressure and direction. A cable pulls accessories through - gravity and the bore guide the path. The cable's advantage: it always follows the bore centerline naturally, so there's zero risk of the rod contacting the crown or chamber throat. The trade-off: you can't push back and forth like a rod. Each pass is one direction, which is actually the recommended method for preventing fouling from being pushed back into the chamber.
What thread size does this cable use?
Standard 8-32 threads - the same as all rifle and pistol cleaning accessories. This means every GUNNIX brass jag, bore brush, bore mop, and slotted tip threads directly onto the cable without adapters. If you also clean shotguns, use a 5/16-27 to 8-32 adapter to attach shotgun-threaded accessories.
How do I store a flexible cleaning cable?
Coil it loosely and store it in your range bag or cleaning kit. The cable holds its coiled shape without kinking because the braided steel has built-in memory. Don't fold it sharply - gentle coils preserve the cable's lifespan. Wipe it down after use to remove solvent residue, especially at the threaded tip where gunk can accumulate and interfere with accessory attachment.
