Four brass sections screw together to build a 30-inch cleaning rod that handles any rifle barrel up to 24 inches with room to spare. Each 7.5" section threads into the next, and the rotating T-handle caps the assembly. Unscrew a section or two for shorter barrels, use all four for full-length rifles - one set adapts to whatever firearm is on the bench or in the field.

Sectional brass rods exist because not every cleaning session happens at a workbench. This set breaks down compact enough for a range bag, a gun case, or a hunting pack. Assemble the sections you need, thread on your brush or jag, clean, disassemble, and pack it away. The alternative - a rigid one-piece rod - cleans well but doesn't travel. For shooters who own firearms across multiple barrel lengths and clean at the range, in the truck, or in camp, a modular gun cleaning rod earns its place.

Solid brass is softer than barrel steel, so the rod won't scratch the bore even without a bore guide. The rotating T-handle follows the rifling twist through ball bearings, protecting both the accessories and the barrel from the torque that a fixed handle would resist. Standard 8-32 thread at the tip connects to every brush, jag, mop, and slotted tip in the GUNNIX lineup - and with a thread adapter, shotgun accessories fit too.

How long is the assembled rod with all 4 sections?
Four 7.5-inch sections assemble into a 30-inch cleaning rod - long enough for standard rifle barrels up to about 26 inches (you need a few inches of excess beyond the muzzle). For shorter barrels, use fewer sections. Two sections give you 15 inches for carbines and longer pistol barrels. The modular system lets you match rod length to barrel length.
Do I need a handle to use these rod sections?
You need a handle for comfortable, controlled cleaning. The GUNNIX T-handle (sold separately) threads onto any section and provides the grip and rotating mechanism for rifled barrels. Without a handle, you're gripping bare brass - workable but awkward, especially with solvent-slick hands. The handle is the centerpiece; the sections are the extension system.
Why choose a multi-section rod over a one-piece rod?
Portability and versatility. A 30-inch one-piece rod doesn't fit in a range bag or pistol case. Four 7.5-inch sections fit anywhere. You also adjust length on the fly - use one section for a pistol, two for a carbine, four for a rifle. The trade-off: a multi-section rod has joints that can flex slightly under heavy pushing pressure. For most cleaning scenarios, this doesn't matter.
Are the section connections secure, or do they unscrew during use?
The sections thread together with standard 8-32 connections and stay firm under normal pushing and pulling. Hand-tight is enough - don't use tools. Occasional loosening can happen during extended scrubbing sessions; just re-tighten when you feel play. The joints are the same threading used throughout the gun cleaning industry, so the connection is proven and reliable.
Is brass the best material for a cleaning rod?
Brass is the safest material for the bore. It's softer than barrel steel, so it can't scratch the rifling even with direct contact. Stainless steel rods are stiffer and more durable, but they can damage the bore if the rod contacts the barrel wall - especially without a bore guide. Carbon fiber rods are lightweight and non-scratching but expensive. Brass delivers the best balance of bore safety, durability, and cost.
